Nature-Based Solutions for Wildfire Risk Adaptation: Integrating Meteorological Indicators and Coupled Fire–Atmosphere Modeling
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
02/PHYS-05 - Astrophysics And Cosmology, Earth- Space- And Climate Physics
Description
The research activity is carried out in the context of the Horizon Europe project ALBATROSS, which develops climate services and decision-support tools for climate change adaptation. The position focuses on assessing the role of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in reducing wildfire risk and strengthening territorial resilience. Under the supervision of the scientific tutor, the researcher will contribute to methodologies for wildfire danger assessment based on meteorological indicators, such as the Canadian Fire Weather Index (FWI), and coupled fire–atmosphere models, particularly WRF-Fire. Activities include collecting, processing and analysing meteorological, climatic and geospatial data, developing wildfire risk scenarios, and evaluating land management strategies and NBS. The researcher will also support the integration of wildfire and NBS datasets into the ALBATROSS Portal, contributing to climate services and decision-support tools for resilient territorial planning.
