2026_IR_20_DEI – Design and implementation of 23Na MRI sequences for the quantification of hydraulic edema...
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
09/IBIO-01 - Bioengineering
Description
This research develops and validates 23Na MRI sequences using phantom and in vivo studies. 3D FLORET and 2D radial readout approaches will be tested on agar gel phantoms, then optimized for a patient cohort via DIMED and AOPD. Data will be quantified using statistical methods to analyze patient phenotypes, including post-surgical cases related to peripheral edema. Compressed sensing and deep learning reconstruction methods will also be explored. The second part focuses on surrogate models from video sequences of human movements to predict external forces (ground reaction forces) and internal forces (tendons, ligaments, muscles). Clinical applications include gait analysis and upper limb assessment for neurological patients and children, supporting motor rehabilitation. In sports, the research enables multitask performance analysis as a flexible, marker-free alternative bridging lab precision and real-world use.
