Description
The Generalized Stochastic Microdismetric Model (GSM2) is a radiobiological and biophysical model developed since 2021 to predict cell damage and survival induced by ionizing radiation treatments. It has been successfully validated for a wide variety of clinically relevant radiation sources (X-rays, protons, helium ions, and carbon ions). The main objective of the research activity is the application of GSM2 in the field of Neutron Capture Therapy (NCT). After an initial study and comparison of the most common radiobiological models used in particle therapy withprotons and carbon ions as well as those used in BNCT, the activity will focus on integrating the GSM2 model into theopen-source Geant4DNA toolkit in the specific context of BNCT. The Monte Carlo activity will be supported by the collection of experimental radiobiological and microdosimetry data relevant to describing the BNCT radiation field.
