Description

The research program aims to explore innovative, multi-scale solutions for the efficient management of water resources in agriculture. Specifically, it seeks to explore, develop, and apply an approach based on the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus. This framework promotes the efficient and multifunctional use of water, ensuring energy efficiency, the integration of renewable energy sources, food security, and the conservation or restoration of ecosystems, ecosystem services, and biodiversity. The program intends to translate this theoretical framework into operational models adaptable to the specific territorial, ecological, and socio-economic characteristics of the Mediterranean region, particularly in light of the challenges posed by climate change.
