Pica Code IR-2026-054 - Sociology of Platforms and Hate Speech. Digital Languages of Social Inclusion or Exclusion, Transmedia Logics, and Audience Fragmentation
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
14/GSPS-06 - Sociology Of Cultural And Communication Processes
Description
This research aims to analyze how the structural dynamics of digital platforms influence the spread of hate speech and the polarization of public debate. The primary objective is to sociologically map digital languages to understand whether social media architectures act as vectors of inclusion or, conversely, as amplifiers of social exclusion. The study, focusing on social media in Italy, will explore transmedia logics, studying how hate content transforms and propagates through different formats and channels (texts, memes, short videos). A further scientific outcome consists of examining the fragmentation of audiences on certain social media platforms, deconstructing the phenomenon of "echo chambers" that rigidify group identities and fuel hostility toward outsiders.
