Experimental assessment of flanking transmission through vertical circulation systems in CLT buildings

Description
The aim of the research project is to investigate structure-borne sound transmission through vertical connections in CLT buildings.Studies and standardised methods are available in the literature and technical standards for the assessment of sound transmission through vertical and horizontal building elements in constructions based on concrete and masonry technologies. Guidance is also available for characterising impact sound propagation on staircases and landings. However, insufficient data are currently available to reliably predict the behaviour of buildings constructed using CLT technology. For this reason, a full-scale mock-up will be constructed to reproduce the different types of connections between the staircase, the landing, and the building partitions. This will make it possible to measure the impact sound radiated into rooms adjacent to the stairwell and to quantify the effectiveness of mitigation solutions designed to reduce the transmission of structure-borne sound.
