Pathways for Sustainable Crops Production to face Global e Challenges: Innovative and Water heritage systems - 2026_IDR_DICA_15
The project focuses on the design of sustainable agricultural production strategies under global change scenarios, in which the contribution of both innovative irrigation systems and Water Heritage Systems (WHS) will be evaluated. The project will examine practical interventions aimed at the restoration and conservation of traditional irrigation canals, hydraulic infrastructures, and ponds that have historically supported the careful and sustainable management of water resources.Within the selected pilot areas, WHS will be identified, restored, and monitored through an integrated approach that combines local expertise with advanced technologies, including GIS-based territorial mapping systems and environmental sensors. Restoration and management plans will be developed in collaboration with local communities, integrating traditional knowledge with the principles of modern ecology.
