The research programme aims to investigate skeletalmuscle adaptations under disuse conditions, withparticular focus on the remodelling of muscle tissue andits resident cellular niche. The activity will involve the use of spatial transcriptomics approaches on biological samples to analyse changes in gene expression withinthe preserved tissue architecture. This approach willallow the investigation of myofibre responses in thecontext of the resident cellular niche, with particularattention to fibro-adipogenic progenitors, or FAPs, andtheir contribution to disuse-induced muscleremodelling. The overall goal is to contribute to theunderstanding of the cellular and molecularmechanisms regulating skeletal muscle adaptation to disuse.
Selection process
