XR-SENSE - NEXT-GENERATION VISUOHAPTIC MEDIA REPRESENTATION, CODING AND INTERACTIVE RENDERING FOR IMMERSIVE AND INCLUSIVE XR

The research activity will focus on the design and integration of multimodal haptic feedback solutions into existing VR/MR platforms for immersive interaction, remote collaboration, and teleoperation. The work will investigate advanced wearable haptic interfaces, such as armbands, rings, and thimbles, capable of delivering cutaneous deformation, vibrotactile stimulation, texture, and thermal cues. Particular attention will be devoted to the development of control strategies and representation methods for mapping information from virtual or remote environments into coherent and meaningful haptic sensations. The overall objective is to improve rendering realism, perceptual credibility, situational awareness, and user experience in next-generation visuo-haptic XR applications.
