Detection of Subclinical Atherosclerosis in Patients Affected by Familial Hypercholesterolemia DETECT FH

The research project aims to evaluate the prevalence and characteristics of subclinical coronary atherosclerosis in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia FH an inherited genetic disorder that predisposes to premature coronary artery disease and cardiovascular eventsThe mutations responsible for FH lead to increased blood LDL cholesterol favoring the early development of atherosclerosisThe primary objective of the study is to evaluate the prevalence and characteristics of subclinical coronary atherosclerosis in patients with FH using coronary computed tomography CCTA angiography to identify those whose CV risk is underestimated and requires reclassificationSecondary objectives include characterizing coronary plaques, evaluating their predictive capacity for acute CV events and analyzing epicardial adipose tissue EAT and the systemic inflammatory profile as predisposing factors for atherosclerosis
