Description

Respiratory virus infections represent a major public health problem, with significant clinical, economic, and social consequences. This impact arises from the intrinsic ability of someviruses, and their variants, to interact with intracellular metabolic pathways of different cell types, activating an inflammatory cascadethat can lead to serious systemic complications, including dysfunction of the pulmonary epithelial-endothelial barrier, which can evolve into acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).To date, potential correlations between the structure of viruses and their ability to modulate cellular metabolic pathways or inducethe damage characteristic of ARDS remain to be investigated.
