Electrochemical Performance and Long-Term Stability of Functionalized Porous Transport Layers in Anodes and Cathodes for Alkaline Membrane Water Electrolyzers
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
09/ICHI-01 - Systems, Methods And Technologies Of Chemical And Process Engineering
Description
The activities for this project are centred on developing and assessing functionalized porous transport layers (PTLs) for use in both the anode and cathode of alkaline membrane water electrolyzers. The work includes selecting suitable PTL materials and applying surface functionalization treatments, followed by detailed physico-chemical characterization to understand their structural and chemical properties. These PTLs are then incorporated into electrodes and complete membrane–electrode assemblies, which are evaluated under different operating conditions to determine their electrochemical performance. Long-term durability tests are carried out to identify degradation mechanisms and quantify performance losses over time, supported by post-operation analyses of the materials.
