Reconstructing the eruptive history of Erciyes volcano (Turkey) through tephra layer analyses
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
04/GEOS-01 - Mineralogy, Petrology, Geochemistry, Volcanology, Georesources And Applications
Description
The project aims to reconstruct the eruptive history of Erciyes volcano from the Late Pleistocene to the Holocene (Central Anatolia, Turkey) through tephrostratigraphic, geochemical and geochronological investigation of tephra layers identified in sediment cores from the Çora maar. The post-doctoral researcher will characterise volcanic tephra using major element analyses (electron microprobe) and trace element analyses (LA-ICP-MS), prepare samples for radiometric dating (C14, U–Th, (U–Th)/He and 40Ar/39Ar where applicable), and support core sampling and laboratory workflows. The results will refine the eruptive chronology of Erciyes and improve the assessment of regional volcanic hazard.
