Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) and Biotechnological Applications with Marine Invertebrates
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
05/BIOS-05 - Ecology
Description
The project aims to develop and optimize Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) systems applied to the culture of marine invertebrates, with particular reference to echinoderms (echinoids and holothuroids). Research activities include the design and management of experimental IMTA systems, diet testing, and the analysis of bioremediation processes and organic waste valorization performed by detritivorous organisms, as well as the evaluation of the reproductive performance of cultured species. The project requires proven expertise in reproductive biology and ecology of the target species, as well as direct experience in quantifying their bioremediation capacity and waste upcycling in IMTA systems. Consolidated skills in the husbandry, manipulation, and monitoring of marine invertebrates under controlled conditions are also required
