Title of the project:" Raman spectroscopy and metagenomics analysis in deep horizons". A postdoctoral researcher will investigate surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy using metal nanosensors to characterize organic carbon extracted via alkaline methods from distinct soil horizons across 40 DeepHorizon project sites. The primary goal is to pinpoint site-specific molecular markers of organic carbon, including recalcitrant compounds indicative of humification, organic matter stability and decomposition extent. Furthermore, the activity will include the study of mycorrhizae in the root system of deep soils. This will be achieved through morphological evaluation of the roots and molecular analysis (DNA extraction from soil and roots, sequencing, and metagenomic analysis for the identification of fungal strains).
