Towards a multi-scale understanding of the solar wind: synergy between advanced space missions and state-of-the-art numerical models
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
02/PHYS-05 - Astrophysics And Cosmology, Earth- Space- And Climate Physics
Description
The research activities will be conducted within the framework of the "Space It Up" project and will focus on the advanced study of space physics, integrating data from space missions with state-of-the-art numerical simulations. The goal is the characterization of the solar wind under disturbed conditions. High-resolution datasets (Solar Orbiter, Parker Solar Probe, MMS) and cutting-edge numerical models will be used. Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) and kinetic simulations will be employed, using Eulerian and Particle-in-Cell (PIC) algorithms. The intent is to understand the properties of turbulence across all spatial scales. The research will address fundamental issues for space weather, promoting new missions, the development of data analysis techniques and innovative algorithms, in full synergy with the objectives of the "Space It Up" project."
