Green Biorefinery of artichoke crop residues [Cynara cardunculus L. subsp. scolymus (L.) Hayek] for the implementation of Bio-Based Circular Economy processes at Farm Scale
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
07/AGRI-02 - Agronomy And Field, Vegetable, Ornamental Cropping Systems
Description
Annual artichoke cultivation generates a significant amount of agro-industrial residues (≈33 t ha⁻¹), which represent a significant source of biomass potentially convertible into high-value compounds. The construction of a pilot extraction plant will enable the valorization of artichoke residues through a biorefinery approach with sequential extractions. The final residues from the extraction process will also be valorized through their agronomic use, contributing to the improvement of soil fertility. The effects on the soil will be monitored by identifying fertility indices, as well as by evaluating the productive and qualitative responses of crops affected by the application of such residues both from proximal and satellite surveys (remote sensing)
