Development of satellite methodologies and numerical modeling for monitoring atmospheric pollutants and hydro-climatic risks at a regional scale
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
02/PHYS-05 - Astrophysics And Cosmology, Earth- Space- And Climate Physics
Description
The project integrates satellite data (IASI/NG, Sentinel-5/P, TROPOMI) with numerical modeling to monitor air quality and environmental risks. Key objectives include developing high-resolution maps for atmospheric pollutants (CO, NOX, SO2, NH3, OCS, CH4) and modeling transport and deposition at local/regional scales using the WRF-Chem system. The methodology relies on advanced inversion methods and validation through in situ observations. Additionally, the project develops water stress indices to assess drought and wildfire risks. Applications range from enhancing weather forecasting to supporting environmental management policies and evaluating pollution's impact on human health and ecosystems. Ultimately, the research provides cutting-edge tools for understanding atmospheric dynamics and ensuring environmental protection, with a specific focus on the Basilicata region.
