Scientific-Disciplinary Group
07/AGRI-08 - Agricultural, Food And Environmental Microbiology
Description
The activities will involve evaluating the abiotic stress mitigation effect of bacterial biofertilizers and their impact on the environment and the aromatic/acidic profile of grapes, for sustainable and low-impact viticulture. Activities will also be conducted in the field of microbial biotechnology for the purpose of modulating the acidity and aroma of wines, including using oenological microorganisms from the SAAF-UNIPA Department collection. The activities will include the isolation of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), nuclear isolation, qPCR, and transformation techniques, Next Generation Sequencing techniques (NGS, WGS, and RNASeq), in vitro cultures, and bioinformatic data analysis, particularly aimed at assembling genomes and transcriptomes. The activities will also be carried out in close collaboration with the Institute of Biosciences and BioResources - National Research Council of Italy (CNR-IBBR) in Palermo (Head: Dr. Francesco Mercati).
