Numerical simulation of noise generation and propagation in the marine environment and effects on fauna
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
04/GEOS-04 - Geophysics
Description
The activity to be carried out for the study of the effects of geophysical acoustic sources on marine fauna. The activity focuses specifically on the study of the propagation of continuous and impulsive noise for the evaluation of the impact of noise on marine mammals using numerical modeling techniques. To this end, large amounts of data will be analyzed also through the use of HPC infrastructures and 'Cloud' resources. In addition, the effects of the variation of the speed of sound propagation in seawater in relation to climate change will be considered. As part of the institutional activities of OGS, it is planned to use the method of numerical simulation of the generation and propagation of geophysical sources 'airgun' and 'sparker', the validation of models through the use of experimental data including 'Distributed Acoustic Sensing' (DAS)
