Description

The Italian Institute of German Studies has announced Call 3/2026 for a 12-month post-doc position (renewable) based in Rome. The research project, “Germany Grand Tour: Project for an Exhibition”, directed by Prof. Gabriella Catalano, explores the plural German identity through cultural exchange with Italy and the post-1945 rethinking of national identity within the mass media.Planned activities include archival research, the creation of critical editions of unpublished sources, and collaboration on the organization of exhibitions. Candidates must hold a PhD in German or Philosophical studies (or possess an equivalent scientific-professional background), an excellent command of German, and a working knowledge of English. Proven expertise in historical-cultural investigations and philological analysis is required.Selection is based on qualifications and an interview; the application must be submitted via Certified Email by May 15, 2026. The gross annual salary is €28,283.94.

The selection process is a comparative evaluation based on qualifications and an interview, managed by a Selection Committee of three experts appointed after the application deadline. The Committee has a total of 100 points: a maximum of 50 points assigned to qualifications (including PhD, curriculum vitae, and up to 5 publications) and a maximum of 50 points for the interview, which may also be held remotely. The minimum eligibility threshold is 70/100.The Committee must conclude its work by June 30, 2026. At the end of the process, a merit ranking is established based on the total score; in the event of a tie, priority is given to the younger candidate. The administration may disqualify a candidate at any time for failure to meet administrative requirements. All outcomes, including the list of candidates admitted to the interview with their respective scores and the final ranking, are made public on the official IISG website. Beyond the general requirements, through both their qualifications and the interview, the candidate must demonstrate expertise in:- The study and critical edition of unpublished sources.- The history of German intellectuality and culture (literary, philosophical, and anthropological aspects).- Italian-German cultural transfer.- The design and implementation of multidisciplinary and dissemination projects.- The ranking list follows the descending order of the total score.- In the event of a tie in points, priority is given to the younger candidate.- The selection outcome and the final ranking list are published on the official IISG website.
