iFEM-based inverse methodologies for structural digital twins under impulsive and extreme loading scenarios - 2026_IPD_DMEC_2
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
09/IIND-03 - Industrial Design, Machine Construction And Metallurgy
Description
The research activity focuses on the development and validation of methodologies for reconstructing the structural response of systems subjected to impulsive loads, with particular emphasis on explosive events both in air and underwater. The project integrates high-fidelity nonlinear FEM simulations and inverse iFEM techniques to estimate structural deformations and residual states from strain data. Forward models will be developed to generate synthetic datasets, together with a nonlinear iFEM formulation capable of operating under large deformation regimes through iterative solution strategies and regularization techniques. The method will be initially validated in a virtual environment, with particular attention to the reconstruction of residual deformations. The successful applicant will also be involved in teaching and laboratory activities in the fields of digital twins for Health and Usage Monitoring, structural health monitoring, and structural integrity assessment.
