Description

The project PULSES focuses on developing fiber reinforced composite pultruded profiles with embedded sensors to make them smart. Pultrusion is widely used for constant-section profiles in industrial and civil applications but remains a mature technology with limited material nnovation and no monitoring capabilities, despite use in critical environments. The project integrates sensors, including optical fibers,to measure strain, stress, and temperature, enabling distributed structural monitoring etworks. It also targets sustainability by using eco-friendly matrices (epoxy and polyester) derived from bio-based sources and recyclable through epolymerization or transesterification, allowing recovery of reinforcement fibers. Glass and basalt fibers will be used. LCA and LCC analyses will assess environmental and economic impacts.
