Renaturalization and monitoring activities of habitats affected by the spread of invasive plant species after the implementation of control interventions on the same species
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
07/AGRI-03 - Arboriculture And Forest Systems
Description
The research activity involves two main types of interventions. The first activity concerns the identification, management, and control of areas invaded by invasive alien plant species in Mediterranean ecosystems. Specifically, the most effective control strategies must be identified and applied, also considering the cost-benefit ratio, in the various project areas, located in Sicily and Malta. The possibility of drone mapping is also foreseen, implementing new technologies for managing invasive plants. The second activity will regard the renaturalization of habitats affected by the spread of invasive plants or adjacent areas. Selecting the most suitable native species and the most effective planting techniques is essential for this objective, ensuring the success of the interventions in the medium to long term. For both activities, a post-intervention monitoring plan will be developed.
