Description

Title of the project: "Advancing Subseasonal and seasonal predictions of precipitation in West Africa". This postdoctoral research position focuses on the development of climate forecasts for the agricultural sector in West Africa across sub-seasonal to seasonal timescales. The researcher will investigate the physical drivers governing rainfall variability, emphasizing local atmospheric dynamics and remote factors such as the Madden-Julian Oscillation and teleconnections with Atlantic and Pacific Sea Surface Temperatures. Utilizing high-resolution satellite data and the C3S database, the candidate will evaluate the performance of dynamical models in capturing the onset of the African monsoon and the frequency of extreme events. The research will integrate hybrid statistical-dynamical forecasting models into impact-based forecasting systems to support decision-making and climate resilience in agriculture...Omissis.
