Description
Title of the project: "Data-Driven and Reduced-Order Modeling of Complex Flow Dynamics”. The appointee will apply and develop data-driven and reduced-order modeling techniques (Dynamic Mode Decomposition, response surface methods, neural networks) to analyze a range of fluid dynamics problems, with the aim of extracting and interpreting dominant spatiotemporal structures and key underlying mechanisms, and providing efficient and accurate representations of the response surfaces of quantities of interest in parameter space. These tools will support diagnostics, uncertainty quantification, and optimization. The methods will be applied to processes described by data derived from either observations or high-fidelity numerical simulations. Applications include fluid motion in natural and manufactured systems.
