The research will focus on the use of feminine metaphorical and allegorical language in Latin texts of early Christianity (2nd–5th century CE). The successful candidate will explore the philosophical and theological dimensions of such motifs in close connection with the investigation of the social and cultural aspects of the feminine, analysing how allegorical representations of women and the feminine both reflect and contribute to shaping the historical roles of women in Latin Christianity.
