Description

Recent advances in Generative AI (from conversational systems to text-to-image models) are rapidly reshaping creative work and knowledge production in various fields, including design and cultural heritage. This study will map current initiatives and emerging professional practices and will explore the opportunities, challenges, and tensions that arise when GenAI is adopted in tangible/intangible heritage-related projects. The research will combine a literature review with case studies analysis, alongside interviews with designers, professionals in design studios, and AI experts. These methods will inform a set of design implications and practical knowledge, while critically assessing the findings within ongoing ethical debates around GenAI. The project results will be disseminated via public-facing activities with cultural institutions and will be integrated into didactic activities through project-based workshops within the Interaction Design program of Politecnico di Milano.
