Data-driven and equation-based tools for Deep understanding of multi-scale Complex Turbulent Flows (DeepFL)
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
02/PHYS-02 - Theoretical Physics Of Fundamental Interactions, Models, Mathematical Methods And Applications
Description
The project aims to develop, validate, and test new physics-based, data-driven tools that can extract interpretable information from sparse andheterogeneous observations of complex, non-equilibrium turbulent flows. Firstly, the project will address thesignificant challenge of developing novel methods and investigating key questions, such as generalizability andaccuracy, using high-quality datasets. Secondly, it will provide optimal protocols tailored to real-worldapplications. These new methods will be applied to the physical modelling of turbulent flows, where complexgeometries and spatiotemporal dynamics can hinder the correct inference of physical processes. This includes rare, extreme, and non-Gaussian events, as well as other out-of-equilibrium properties on multiple scales. In the longterm, the project will be distinguished by the development of an open data portal called Smart-Turb
