Scientific-Disciplinary Group
10/STAN-01 - Greek And Roman History
Description
This research project aims to investigate, using the latest advances in digitisation and dematerialisation techniques, a corpus of documents of exceptional scientific significance: the correspondence between Giovanni Battista de Rossi (Latin librarian at the Vatican Apostolic Library) and Wilhelm Henzen (First Secretary of the German Archaeological Institute — Rome Branch), dating from 1845 to 1886. The production of the analytical study, historical commentary and critical edition of this correspondence will require the systematic use of Transkribus, an Al-based Handwritten Text Recognition platform, for automated assisted transcription, the training of specific AI models on 19th-century handwriting, and the creation of a searchable digital archive. The researcher selected to carry out the project must therefore have expertise in epigraphy, the history of epigraphic studies and the use of Transkribus.
