Automatic Label-free system for Cell Viability Investigation on-a-CHIP via Opto-Mechanical Methodologies
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
09/IINF-04 - Systems And Control Engineering
Description
The ability to assess cell viability and infection status in real time is fundamental for biomedical research and diagnostics. Current methods—metabolic assays, fluorescence staining, and flow cytometry—are accurate but invasive, costly, and limited to end-point measurements. They do not allow continuous monitoring of the same cell population and are not easily adaptable to portable settings. This project aims to study and develop an automatic label-free lab-on-chip system based on electrokinetic principles and cellular mechanotransduction. The goal is to create multiple solutions, to be applied either as point-of-care testings or as a lab-bench platform for high-throughput screenings and real-time monitoring.
