Description
The position entails a comparative analysis of the major “translation traditions” of Petrarch’s poetry in the English language, from the early modern period to the twenty-first century, with particular attention to the study of contacts among Anglophone, Francophone, and Germanophone cultures. The activities will include the construction of a research corpus, the textual and socio-historical analysis of translation strategies and “translation imaginaries,” as well as the production of scholarly outputs and materials for the project’s digital platform. The research will further extend the investigation to the contemporary period (twentieth and twenty-first centuries), examining the persistence, transformation, and medialization of the “language of love” across novels, poetry, autofiction, cinema, series, songs, digital platforms, and videogames, in close dialogue with the sociology of communication, Cultural Studies, and methodologies in comparative translation studies.
