Modeling and Experimental Study of Floating structure with heaving plate for Offshore Wind Energy Applications

The activities planned within the research project aim to design a demonstrator of a floating wind turbine of at least 2 MW, to be installed at a site to be defined in the Strait of Sicily or along the Sardinian coast. The design represents an important step towards the upscaling of the small-scale FOWT prototype installed at the MaRELab site, in order to address the requirements of future calls expected under Horizon projects. To this end, the candidate will be required to contribute to the design process through the development and validation of reduced-order computational models for the study of the dynamic behaviour of the floating structure in waves, with emphasis to the passive damping system based on the use of heaving plate.
