Applications of Quantum Technology in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering for Quantum Technologies - 2026_IPD_DMEC_3
The project investigates the interaction between mechanical engineering and quantum technologies. It explores how quantum sensing and computing can address mechanical engineering challenges, while developing engineering solutions that enable and enhance quantum devices. The project focuses on quantum-enhanced sensing for monitoring and control, quantum or quantum-inspired algorithms for computational mechanics, optimisation and data analysis, and hybrid classical-quantum workflows for simulation, inverse problems and digital twins. In parallel, it addresses mechanical engineering challenges in quantum technologies, including mechanical and thermal systems for devices, modelling of systems relevant to sensing platforms, integration of quantum and classical sensors, and data-driven methods such as quantum machine learning. The researcher will join an interdisciplinary program and may focus on quantum technologies for engineering, engineering of quantum systems, or bridging the two.
