Multi-Sensor Synchronization and FPGA-Based Preprocessing for Neuromorphic Robotic Perception
Gruppo Scientifico-Disciplinare

Descrizione
The integration of heterogeneous sensors (event-based cameras, frame-based cameras, and IMUs) on ultra-low-power robotic platforms requires efficient interfaces for data synchronization and preprocessing. This research contract, within the RoboMix2 project, aims to design and validate FPGA-based systems for synchronizing multi-modal sensor streams with microsecond-level precision and preprocessing data before forwarding to Kraken and Grypho neuromorphic SoCs. The work includes: 1) design of modular PCB architectures for miniaturized ground and aerial vehicles (nano-UAVs); 2) development of smart interface strategies (event filtering, temporal alignment, feature extraction) to optimize data flow. This activity will contribute to RoboMix2 objectives by advancing the state of the art in hardware integration for mixed event-frame sensing, enabling efficient sensor fusion for visual odometry and autonomous navigation.
