Digitization of materials held at the Biblioteca statale del Monumento Nazionale di Montecassino

The project focuses on the digitization, cataloging, and study of 43 manuscript Bibles (with or without commentary) preserved in the Archive of the Abbey of Montecassino. This initiative expands upon the work of the MeMo – Memory of Montecassino project, which has already digitized and made available online over 300 items, including manuscripts, parchments, and incunabula.Detailed scientific descriptions of the codices—covering codicological, paleographical, textual, and art-historical data—will be integrated into the national catalog Manus Online, ensuring data interoperability across Italian libraries.The research will specifically analyze the material and textual features of the glossed Bibles to reconstruct their production and circulation within both the Cassinese and broader European traditions. The project’s findings will be shared through publications, academic conferences, and public outreach initiatives.
