Research contract in Armenian studies within the framework of the MASLAB project:

MASLAB investigates the transformations in the exercise of episcopal power within Christian communities in the Near East (7th -10th c.) against the backdrop of the transition from Byzantine and Sasanian rule to Islamic rule. Drawing on a diverse, multilingual corpus of sources, the project analyzes how episcopal authority, relational networks, and the resources available to bishops adapted, reorganized, and were redefined within the new political and religious structures of the Islamic Empire. The project combines qualitative and quantitative methods to map bishops and dioceses of the Islamic period while comparing the experiences of various Eastern Christian traditions.The successful candidate will:- Conduct a research project on topics relevant to the project's objectives, specifically focusing on the study of the Armenian Church.- Collect and analyze information from Classical Armenian sources—including manuscripts—to compile a database and conduct a prosopographical study.
