BIOS-01/C- BIOS-05/A - Integrating multidisciplinary approaches to evaluate the role of macroalgae in marine ecosystems: perspectives for ecological restoration
The research project will focus on the role of macroalgae in marine ecosystems, with particular attention to their environmental implications and potential for ecological restoration. Activities will include eco- physiological studies to assess the responses of macroalgae to environmental stressors, such as climate change and pollution. Models will be employed to simulate the interaction of macroalgae with other components of the marine ecosystem, analyzing their effects on biodiversity and ecosystem services. The project also includes field activities, with experiments on degraded coastal habitats to test the effectiveness of macroalgae reintroduction as a tool for ecological restoration. The aim is to develop innovative and sustainable strategies for coastal management and ecological restoration, contributing to the conservation of biodiversity and the improvement of marine ecosystems’ resilience.
