Targeting epigenetic and metabolic crosstalk in CML via butyrate induced HDAC inhibition

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is characterized by profound epigenetic and metabolic alterations that are often interconnected in a vicious cycle sustaining the proliferation and survival of leukemic cells. This project aims to investigate the role of butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid known for its ability to inhibit histone deacetylases (HDACs), as a tool to disrupt this epigenetic-metabolic crosstalk. The study seeks to evaluate the effects of butyrate on key epigenetic modifications (histone acetylation) and on altered metabolic pathways in CML cells, with the aim of identifying novel therapeutic targets and combination strategies capable of enhancing the efficacy of existing treatments while reducing drug resistance phenomena.
