Optimization of the Acid Flotation Process through a Chemometric Approach for Reducing Its Environmental Impact

Despite the high efficiency of HF in acid flotation processes for quartz–feldspar separation, its use raises significant concerns regarding equipment and environmental impact. To address these issues, the research activity will investigate alternative acids, mainly organic, capable of performing a similar role while being less harmful. Their efficiency will be optimized through the selection of suitable anionic and cationic collectors, or their combinations, and by evaluating the addition of appropriate inhibitors, with the aim of achieving performance comparable to or better than that obtained with HF. Alternative solutions and operating conditions will be assessed using multivariate data analysis.In parallel, a sustainable treatment for acidic wastewater will be developed and optimized through a chemometric approach to reduce the overall environmental impact of the flotation process.
