Diversity of Orchid Mycorrhizal Fungi and Their Functional Role in the Symbiotic Interaction

The project aims to characterize the diversity of fungi involved in the mycorrhizal symbiosis of Mediterranean orchid species and to clarify their functional role in the interaction with the plant. Metabarcoding approaches will be used to analyse the composition and structure of fungal communities associated with different orchid species, assessing their specificity and variability. In addition, transcriptomic techniques will enable the investigation of the molecular mechanisms underlying plant–fungus communication by identifying the genes and biological processes involved in the establishment and functioning of the symbiosis.
