Local translation dynamics at the synapse in mouse models of neuromuscular diseases

Motor functions implement evolutionary relevant and necessary actions, such as running and breathing. They rely on electric impulses which produce muscle contractions through the neuromuscular junction (NMJ). Recent studies show that local translation at the NMJ occurs in adult mice and it is impaired in neuromuscular disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The project will investigate which targets are translated in normal and diseased condition in different compartments of the motor neuron to identify potential targets that will be manipulated to restore specific phenotypes.
