Models for Suspension Bridges and their interaction with fluids - 2026_IDR_DMAT_12
Suspension bridges are subject to aerodynamic forces. Both the structural behaviour of bridges and the vortex shedding in the wind flow are extremely difficult to model. The research program should suggest new theoretical models able to highlight some hidden phenomena such as possible nonuniqueness of solutions of the coupled fluid-structure interaction system, as well as their long-time behaviour. A first step could be to consider a scalar version of the Navier-Stokes equations. The knowledge of specific tools in PDEs and functional analysis appear necessary.
