Paleontological analysis of Quaternary deposits in the area of CARG Sheet 165 - Mantova

The research project, promoted by ISPRA, is part of the Geological Mapping Project of Italy at a scale of 1:50,000 (CARG Project), specifically concerning Sheet 165 – Mantova. The activity plan will include, in the following order: (i) creation of a stratigraphic database; (ii) collection and processing of sediment samples from boreholes; (iii) qualitative and quantitative analyses of ostracod and foraminiferal micropaleontological assemblages, following standard procedures, including the collection of at least 300 specimens per sample and taxonomic identification to species level; (iv) reconstruction of the paleoenvironmental evolution of the investigated successions; and (v) interpretation within a sequence-stratigraphic framework. Finally, the training programme includes the processing and interpretation of the resulting data and their presentation at national or international conferences.
