Sustainable Olive Oil Supply Chain - Calabria end Umbria OLIS —

The research activity will focus on thedevelopment of innovative andenvironmentally sustainable cultivationschemes aimed at accelerating plant growthand development in young olive orchardswhile, at the same time, enhancing theirability to withstand biotic stress. Particularattention will be paid to the ongoing effectsof climate change and to the requirementsassociated with new high-density plantingsystems. The proposed cultivation schemeswill also include the use of biostimulants and,where appropriate, bioactive compounds, withthe aim of promoting vegetative vigour andenhancing the plants' natural defencemechanisms. The efficacy of these lowenvironmental-impact products will thereforebe assessed in terms of their ability tocontribute to the protection of olive treesagainst the major phytosanitary threatsaffecting the crop, thereby supporting thedevelopment of integrated, sustainable, andeffective plant protection strategies.
