2026-IdrDip-04-stum - “School Culture” – The 1960s in Schools. The Literary Canon and Reading Practices in Middle School

The programme is part of the broader research project The Culture of the School, promoted by the Teacher Education Centre at University of Pavia.The Role of Anthologies and Editorial Mediation between New Teaching Paradigms and a Different Conception of the Reader. Three lines of inquiry are envisaged:1.the series Letture per la scuola media, launched byEinaudi in 1965 on the initiative of DanielePonchiroli;2.La lettura. Antologia per la scuola media (Zanichelli,1969), edited by Italo Calvino and Giambattista Salinari, with further investigation Calvino’s literary workshop and library (the Calvino Collection at the Biblioteca Nazionale in Rome);3. the Fondo Scolastici of the Biblioteca NazionaleBraidense, witch provides a privileged vantage pointto examine school publishing in the period and in thepreceding decade.The debate that emerged inthe main specialist journals will also be takeninto consideration, with particular attention toRiforma della scuola.

Selection process

The selection of candidates is carried out on the basis of qualifications and possible interview (with test of knowledge of the foreign language) (see Art. 1 par. 1 Call for applications). These degrees must be relevant to the subject of the research activity. Further specific assessable qualifications (see Art. 1 par. 1 Call for applications):PhD in Italian Studies, preferably with a dissertationfocusing on contemporary Italian literature. Experience inarchival research and the study of archival materials.
