Acoustic-Flow Interaction over an acoustic liner - Ref. 111/26/IR

Limited understanding of how acoustic waves interact with turbulent boundary layers over sound-absorbing surfacesleads to unexpected, unphysical results in inverse acoustic characterization. This project will combine experimentswith high-fidelity lattice-Boltzmann very-large-eddy simulations to explain flow–acoustic interactions. Advanced dataanalysis will separate acoustic and hydrodynamic velocities near the wall. The numerical database will enablecomparison of inverse methods, reveal the physical causes of anomalous results and support physics-basedcorrections. It will also help model and predict the drag increase caused by acoustic–flow coupling. These findingswill resolve scientific debate and pave the way for broadband, low-noise, low-drag acoustic metasurfaces, improvingpropulsion efficiency and reducing noise in future, more sustainable aircraft engines.
