Sustainable Olive Oil Supply Chain – Calabria and Umbria - Sustainable Olive Growing

The research aims to enhance thesustainability and resilience of the olive andolive oil supply chain by improving itsadaptation to climate change, economiccompetitiveness, and the quality of extravirgin olive oil. Innovative bioactivecompounds will be evaluated to mitigate theeffects of abiotic stresses on olive trees. Toimprove soil fertility, enhance carbonsequestration, increase productivity, andreduce the use of chemical inputs, therecovery and use of olive industry byproductsas soil amendments will beoptimized. These by-products will also beused in nurseries to reduce peatconsumption. Finally, the carbon and waterfootprints of extra virgin olive oil will beassessed to improve the overallsustainability of the supply chain andenhance product value and corporate image.
